A prepared question provides safety. But if I miss the unexpected door opened by a guest’s last sentence, preparation itself becomes an obstacle.

“Listening means letting another person complete their language before turning it into your thesis.”

Listening is not agreement. It means allowing another person’s language to become complete before using it as material for your own thesis.

For my own practice the test is simple: before the follow-up, did I hear the answer—or was I merely waiting for my next question?
